PolyMAT is a small and ambitious MAT with a unique family feel that is seeking a Deputy Head Teacher with responsibility for the Sixth Form. Our vision is ‘Success for Everyone’ and the successful candidate will help deliver this for our schools. We currently have three schools in our Trust: Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys, a long-successful boys’ school, Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls that opened in 2019, and Bannockburn Primary School, a large successful primary that joined the Trust on 1st November 2023. We also have our flourishing Sixth Form provision which is co-educational. Our Trust and our schools pride themselves on a culture of high standards delivered through our Values of Care and Unity. We provide a rewarding environment where students and staff feel valued and supported and everyone feels part of the larger family as our schools and departments work very closely together.
With the planned expansion of the Sixth Form, the ambition is to make Woolwich Polytechnic the first choice for Greenwich and local students who wish to pursue KS5 academic studies and to become one of the largest and most successful Sixth Form provisions in the country. In particular, we want the Sixth Form to be just as popular with students from Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls as it is with those from Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys.
This new post reflects this ambition and the leadership necessary to make it a reality. The deputy head teacher will motivate and inspire students, staff, parents and carers and the wider community to ensure every student achieves his or her full potential and is equipped to take advantage of a range of opportunities.
The successful candidate will most likely have previous experience of working at Deputy Head level and must have experience of leading a successful sixth form.
The successful senior post holder will lead and take responsibility for the school’s outstanding sixth form. This is an expanding Sixth Form that will cater for up to 620 students when full. They will foster an ethos of hard work and the excellent pastoral care that is evident in both our existing secondary schools, providing a solid environment for our Sixth Form students to flourish both within the Sixth Form and beyond at university and the world of work.
The deputy head teacher will assist the Head of School in working with the local academy committee and the wider community to provide professional leadership, vision and direction for the school. The deputy head teacher will establish a culture that promotes excellence, equality and high expectations of all and should be flexible and adapt to ever evolving priorities as they arise.
This is an exciting and challenging position which will provide an opportunity for a dynamic, forward-thinking individual to put their skills into practice and contribute to the development of this ambitious school. The ideal candidate will have the talent and motivation to develop towards a Headship in due course.
